چکیده

The loading pattern of fuel bundles in a reactor core determines the characteristics of the reloading cycle. The problem of maximizing fuel utilization during a cycle may be formulated as a nonlinear mixed integer programming (NLMIP) problem, and has until now mostly been treated by heuristic optimization methods like simulated annealing. This paper evalutes the performance of state-of-the-art nonlinear programming routines on this problem, and compare results with available heuristic solutions.

Optimization of Nuclear Fuel Reloading by the Homogenization Method

In this paper we extend the homogenization method to the optimization of the position of fuel assemblies in a nuclear reactor core. For this type of problem the state equation is a system of diffusion equations for the neutron flux. Homogenization theory allows to relax a truly discrete optimization problem into a continuous and well-posed optimization problem. The latter one is solved by using...

Investigation of PWR core optimization using harmony search algorithms

This work addresses applications of the classical harmony search (HS), improved harmony search (IHS) and the harmony search with differential mutation based pith adjustment (HSDM) to PWR core reloading pattern optimization problems. Proper loading pattern of fuel assemblies (FAs) depends on both neutronic and thermal–hydraulic aspects; obtaining optimal arrangement of fuel assemblies, FA, in a ...

A new approach for the optimal distribution of assemblies in a nuclear reactor

The aim of this paper is to propose a new approach for optimizing the position of fuel assemblies in a nuclear reactor core. This is a control problem for the neutronic diffusion equation where the control acts on the coefficients of the equation. The goal is to minimize the power peak (i.e. the neutron flux must be as spatially uniform as possible) and maximize the reactivity (i.e. the efficie...

Reduced optimal controller design for the nuclear reactor power control system

The power control system of a nuclear reactor is one of the key systems that concern the safe operation of the plant. Much attention is paid to the power control systems’ performance of nuclear reactor in engineering. The goal of this paper is apply balance model reductionto derive reduced order model and then design the reduced optimal controller for nuclear reactor power system. The simulation...

Using a multi-state recurrent neural network to optimize loading patterns in BWRs

A Multi-State Recurrent Neural Network is used to optimize Loading Patterns (LP) in BWRs. We have proposed an energy function that depends on fuel assembly positions and their nuclear cross sections to carry out optimisation. Multi-State Recurrent Neural Networks creates LPs that satisfy the Radial Power Peaking Factor and maximize the effective multiplication factor at the Beginning of the Cyc...
